All animal use for research, testing, or teaching requires IACUC review and approval PRIOR to initiation. PIs should complete and submit an IACUC protocol application via eProtocol for new projects or 4th year renewal with sufficient time for IACUC review and approval at a convened IACUC meeting prior to project initiation or protocol expiration. Deadlines for protocol submission in order for review at the monthly IACUC meeting are contained in the table below.
Protocols in which the proposed animal use involves the potential for no more than momentary pain or distress for the animals may be eligible to go through a process known as Designated Review (DR), and can be submitted at any time during the month. However, the IACUC makes the final determination as to whether DR is appropriate. To help facilitate IACUC review and approval, submission of such protocols is encouraged throughout the month rather than just at the deadline.
